Scottie Mills' tone is dialed in and timeless. You know him as the lead guitar player of Colony House, but Scottie has also been a session player in Nashville for years - sitting in with bands like Needtobreathe, Wilder Woods, and countless others. In this Helix preset, we broke down his unique pedalboard approach in meticulous detail, and we give you his creative two amp setup. It's the perfect harmony of throwback rock and modern detail.
Scottie likes to keep his amp clean but right on the edge of overdriving. From there he lets his pedals push the amp as desired while adding his signature vibrato, spring verb and slap-back sounds. Scotties uses his second amp as a kind of "in your face" moment of emphasis, typically a small wattage amp that is cranked to "11". Scotties pedal board layout has some unique offerings that made the Helix effect choices really fun. Scottie has a amp splitter/booster, a particular "spitting" fuzz pedal, AND a delay with an effects loop. We took our time to recreate these and make sure they operated in the Helix world as they do on his pedal board. This preset is fully supported for Helix Floor, LT, Native, HX Effects and HX Stomp.
We had a blast creating the sounds that I use on the road and in the studio. We spent a ton of time getting the effects selections right. I do a few things that are not the norm, so we got creative and the result is awesome. Enjoy!
There is only one James Duke, and after many requests we took everything we could from his Helix Floor Preset and put into a PodGo preset.
The "That's So James Duke" PodGo Preset embodies his amp choices and his tonal approach.
This preset works only for PodGo.
When he picks up a guitar, you know that what’s coming will be inspired. His tone is as delicate as it is furious. You probably already listen to at least one of the artists that he’s shared the stage and studio with: All The Bright Lights, Johnnyswim, Jesus Culture, John Mark McMillan, Matt Redman, the list goes on. There is only one James Duke, and the "That's So James Duke" Helix Preset embodies his amp choices and his tonal approach. This preset works for Helix Floor & Stomp users.
Scottie has a unique two-amp setup that isn’t your typical, run of the mill stereo approach. We profiled his two favorite amps - yes, the ones you’ve heard on stage and countless records, and recreated his pedalboard in the Kemper effects section to give you access to the amazing variety of tones he creates.
